Catalonia International collaborates in the international dissemination of the Manifesta 15 biennial
The biennial of contemporary art officially opens on Saturday at the iconic Three Chimneys Building in Sant Adrià de Besòs
Manifesta is a European nomadic biennial that takes place every two years in a different host city or region. It was conceived in the early nineties from the Netherlands as a contemporary art biennial that responded to the new social, cultural and political reality that emerged after the Cold War. Manifesta aims to reform the relations between art, culture and society with the aim of achieving socio-ecological change. The method used is dialogue with local communities and with international cultural creators and producers.
The 15th edition, which will be officially inaugurated on Saturday, will last 12 weeks and will reach 12 cities in the metropolitan region of Barcelona: Barcelona, Badalona, Cornellà de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, Granollers, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Mataró, Sabadell, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Cugat del Vallès and Terrassa. From 8 September to 24 November, Manifesta will occupy unusual spaces usually unknown to the public in these 12 cities. Catalonia International collaborates with the organization of Manifesta in the area of international dissemination and the reception of foreign journalists who will follow the activities.
Manifesta 15 is the largest edition in the history of Manifesta, as it covers an area of 3,000 Km2 and a population of 5.1 million inhabitants. The biennial has been structured in three clusters that are, at the same time, thematic and geographical: "Equilibrating conflicts" (Llobregat delta), "Caring and caring for us" (Serra de Collserola and Vallès) and "Imagining futures" (river Besòs and surroundings). In these clusters, well grounded in local realities, more than ninety participants present multidisciplinary works to expand the understanding of how we relate to each other and to the natural resources that surround us.
