Catalonia International organizes a conference on the threats of disinformation in election time
Organized jointly with the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the United States and Canada, it will take place in Barcelona on 8 October
Catalonia International and the Delegation of the Government of Catalonia to the United States and Canada organize next 8 October the conference Democracy at Stake: Disinformation in Elections. The event will focus on the threat that artificial intelligence and the disinformation it can create represents for elections and democracy in general. The event will take place at Barcelona's Casa Convalescència - Campus UAB between 3pm and 8pm (local time).
Journalist Laura Pous Trull, Journalist at Catalan News Agency, will chair a conference divided into two parts.
First, Sebastian Becker Castellaro, Associate Programme Officer - Digitalization & Democracy at the intergovernmental Organization International IDEA, expert in disinformation and democracy, will make a theoretical and global approach to the subject. Klimentini Diakomanoli, from StratCom Task Force of the European Commission will present the main actions undertaken by the European Union.
Next, there will be a round table with experts and professionals. Participants will include Carme Colomina Saló, Senior Research Fellow on the European Union, disinformation and global polítics at CIDOB; Alba Tobella Mayans, journalist, cofounder and Director of Verificat; Kayleen Devlin, Senior journalist at BBC Verify; Gabriel Lopez Serrano, Corporate Affairs Director at Microsoft Ibérica; and Alexandre López Borrull, Associate Professor at Information and Communication Sciences Department, Open University of Catalonia (UOC).
There will be simultaneous interpretation and the event will also be broadcast online.
